At MrTico we pride ourselves in exclusively using vans, coasters and buses in tip top shape; all with the required permits, operator´s insurance, AC, seat belts, and the capacity to install child seats. All vehicles are driven by experienced and knowledgeable full time drivers.
With land transfers within Costa Rica, one very important thing to note is the difference between private transfers and non-private transfers. A private transfer implies that you are hiring one van (coaster or bus) with a driver, exclusively for your party. There are no other travelers in the vehicle.
Private transfers allow us, as trip designers, to give the trip the smoothest and most efficient logistics, since we can have the van leave at a (pre-established) time of your convenience. The alternative to this is a “non private transport” in which case the van is shared by 6 – 10 travelers (or more) who share the same route, however the times for these vans are pre-established and non flexible. There are additional pro´s on private transfers; among these are usually shorter travel time between destinations and roomier comfort.
The advantage of non private transfers is that they are much more cost efficient for parties of two or less travelers. They are also a good opportunity to meet other travelers. For parties of three or more travelers, the cost of a private transfer is roughly equivalent to that of the non private transfer. Again, the vehicles are of the same standard.
