The combination of rugged terrain, numerous drainage networks and a great volume of runoff provide Costa Rica with more white water paddling opportunities than any other country of similar dimensions. Without doubt, some of the most majestic jewels of the rich coast are its white water rivers. Costa Rica’s rivers are the quintessential tropical jungle rivers, teeming with spectacular natural scenery and wild life. Most rivers flow through lush tropical canyons creating harmonious combinations of rock, exotic tropical flora and water, not to mention fauna. While others wind through lush lowland forests that abound with overhanging trees filled with bizarre fruits, bromeliads, birds and easily spotted monkeys.
Turquoise pools that invite you for a swim, narrow gorges that give scale to nature’s power through eons of time, breathtaking waterfalls that will compel you by fascination and simply thrilling white water navigation which will make your day(s). This is what you will find in the white water rivers of Costa Rica.
There is no single other way to combine an exhilarating adventure, observation of unique natural habitats and passages through remote areas that would otherwise be likely inaccessible. All with relatively easy access, warm water, professional guidance and the highest safety standards. If we have the time, we run the Pacuare river with some tico friends or guests on a multi-days tour with overnight stay at one of the awesome river side jungle lodges. Good times!
